Reflection on Teacher-Centered and Learner-Centered Instruction

It is quite important to make a choice between teacher-centered and learner-centered instruction beacuse it makes up a dramatic portion of instructional objectives and also a teacher's teaching philosophy.The issue is arguable as there are teachers who favour teacher-centered instruction;on the other hand, there are some teachers who favour learner-centered instruction.Personally, I believe the issue of teacher-centered and learner-centered instruction has always been a contoversial topic in Turkey.

    Dear Zeynep, I also think this issue is open to date if we take the Turkish education system as a base. However there is political effects on our education system. I think there isn't a single public man who cares about the education system. So I think as teachers we have to find the right way by ourselves. We can start this by creating an instruction which is going to be somewhere between teacher-centered and student-centered instruction.

    Hello Zeynep, I agree with your comments and I believe that this will be controversial issue in Turkey for future, too.However, maybe this controversion provide the variability for education system and this could a good thing for students.For example, one student may take a course from two different teacher who apply these different tecniques.In this way, this student can benefits from this situation because maybe one of these techniques is not good for this student.
