Research Question : INTRINSIC MOTIVATION or THE EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION ?

Intrinsic motivation or extrinsic motivation ?
Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that comes from inside an individual rather than from any external or outside rewards, such as money or grades.Intrinsic motivation is feeling good about doing something. For example, student is studying and getting an A because it makes her feel very good. In that, an intrinsically motivated person will work on a math equation, for example, because it is enjoyable. Or an intrinsically motivated person will work on a solution to a problem because the challenge of finding a solution is provides a sense of pleasure.Intrinsic motivation does not mean, however, that a person will not seek rewards. It just means that such external rewards are not enough to keep a person motivated. An intrinsically motivated student, for example, may want to get a good grade on an assignment, but if the assignment does not interest that student, the possibility of a good grade is not enough to maintain that student's motivation to put any effort into the project.

Intrinsic motivation is useful for students because there some obvious differences between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation occurs when we are motivated to perform a behavior or engage in an activity in order to earn a reward or avoid a punishment.Examples of behaviors that are the result of extrinsic motivation include:
  • Studying because you want to get a good grade
  • Cleaning your room to avoid being reprimanded by your parents
  • Participating in a sport in order to win awards
  • Competing in a contest in order to win a scholarship
In each of these examples, the behavior is motivated by a desire to gain a reward or avoid a negative outcome. But intrinsic motivation involves engaging in a behavior because it is personally rewarding; essentially, performing an activity for its own sake rather than the desire for some external reward.
Examples of behaviors that are the result of intrinsic motivation include:
  • Participating in a sport because you find the activity enjoyable
  • Solving a word puzzle because you find the challenge fun and interesting
  • Playing a game because you find it exciting
In each of these instances, the person's behavior is motivated by an internal desire to participate in an activity for its own sake.
Therefore, in light of the these information which I give above intrinsic motivation is more useful and efficient  for students. Intrinsic motivation is way of handing achievement.

Reflection on Nature vs. Nurture

As a prospective English teacher, I sugggest nature and nurture of students should be considered by taking students' characteristics into consideration. How much are we influenced by our nature and nurture is a key concept in behaviorism and many experiments such as Skinner's experiment with a rat and Pavlo's experiment with a dog geneally deals with unconscious or conscious behavior. So, it is open to dispute;what do you think about it ? Personally, I believe that I have optimisim by nature which helps me a lot in my studies. In this aspect, we can reflect it to our own success As far as I can reflect on my own resource of success, I would attribute it equally to nature and nurture. Personally, I believe a person won't be able to succeed without the help of his/her particular characteristics such as optimisim.

Reflection on Teacher-Centered and Learner-Centered Instruction

It is quite important to make a choice between teacher-centered and learner-centered instruction beacuse it makes up a dramatic portion of instructional objectives and also a teacher's teaching philosophy. The issue is arguable as there are teachers who favour teacher-centered instruction;on the other hand, there are some teachers who favour learner-centered instruction.Personally, I believe the issue of teacher-centered and learner-centered instruction has always been a contoversial topic in Turkey.

Personal Statement

I want to be a teacher because I think this job is enjoyable. Actually, there are especially few reasons to enter the profession. Firstly, I always wanted to be a teacher. Since I was a young girl growing up I wanted to become a teacher. I always admired the way that my teachers dressed and spoke, and I wanted to be like them. Secondly, I chose to become a teacher I always love standing in front of my peers and expressing myself, so this become to be a hobby to me. Seeing myself making a positive impact in my community was all I wanted. Indeed, I love working with kids sharing the knowledge. Thirdly, I love teaching the most because I love kids.
Obviously, I do not have experiences yet, but I have a brother and I always help his courses. Working with children is both enjoyable and difficult. This is because, I am not a very patient person and sometimes I may be angry with children.
I hope to learn new things this year about teaching methods to be an effective teacher and I want to use these knowledge in my future profession life.
